 Little Athletics promotes participation and self-improvement —BEING YOUR BEST—and offers a wide range of activities which ensures there is something for everyone. Athletes will enjoy learning new skills, the excitement of competition and making new friends.

• The Centre is made up of five clubs; Bell Park, Corio South, Corio West, Golden Plains and Lara. Each of these clubs will be represented at our Information Day.

• The number of registered athletes at the Corio Little Athletics Centre is approximately 300.

• The Little Athletics Corio Centre is affiliated with Little Athletics Victoria Incorporated, which is the governing body for little athletics in Victoria.

SUMMER SEASON (TRACK AND FIELD)

The summer season starts in October and finishes in March.

There is a mid-season break over Christmas.

 

WINTER SEASON (CROSS COUNTRY)

For those athletes who wish to keep fit during the winter break, a Cross Country program is also conducted by the Corio Centre.

 

AGE GROUPS

The minimum age to compete in Little Athletics is five years of age.

Age groups available at the Corio Centre are Under 6 through to Under 16.

 

WEEKLY PROGRAM

Events available include sprints, long distance, walks, hurdles, long jump, triple jump, high jump, discus, shot put and javelin. Athletes are encouraged to participate in as many events as they can. The program operates across three rotating cycles.

All events are available to both boys and girls, however the younger age groups do not participate in the more difficult events such as javelin, high jump, hurdles etc. 

These events are introduced at the appropriate age groups.

 

UNIFORM

Each club has its own uniform requirements generally consisting of T-shirt, black shorts (with no logo or

pockets), white socks and runners. The club of your choice can assist with further information re: colours, etc.

 

INSURANCE

Insurance is provided for all registered athletes members and helpers through Little Athletics Victoria.

 

TRAINING/COACHING

There are no compulsory training sessions, however the Corio Centre has qualified coaches to improve the skills of registered athletes. Coaching sessions are available for throws, walks, track and jumps. Session times are available from the Centre.

 

CHAMPIONSHIPS

Corio Centre Championships Day is held at the end of the season and is open to athletes registered at the Corio Centre.

There are opportunities throughout the season for registered athletes to compete at Region and State Championships for Track and Field, Cross Country, Relays and Multi-Event, as well as other Centre’s Open Days.

 

PARENTAL ASSISTANCE

All parents with registered children attending Little Athletics are required to help at Centre level. Parents assist in running of the events under the guidance of the Chief Official. All Clubs have a duty roster to ensure that each event is fully supervised and the work load is shared.

 

FEES

An annual Little Athletics Victoria registration fee applies to each athlete. A weekly competition fee per athlete also applies.

Fees for 2019/20 season are: Registration plus IMG administration fee = TOTAL $82.00

Summer Weekly Fees will vary between Clubs, but are approximately $7.00/$8.00.

Winter Weekly Fees $4.00

Please note: Uniforms are not provided as part of the registration fee.

 

REGISTRATION

All members (new and returning) must register online via the LAVic Website prior to participating in competition—we recommend registration no later than Thursday before your first attendance to ensure your registration is processed. Information on how to register will be available at the Come and Try day, and laptops will be set-up to facilitate this. All new members will be required to present a birth certificate to the centre executive on or before their first competition day. New members can participate in two trial days at no charge, however an online registration must still be completed beforehand.
